In this Update:
Senate Republicans Re-Elect Leadership TeamI have been re-elected Senate Majority Caucus Secretary to oversee all executive nominations submitted to the Senate for confirmation. I will continue to coordinate the review of the background and experience of nominees and ensure that proper documentation is submitted. It has been my honor to have been selected by my colleagues as a member of the Senate Majority Caucus Leadership team for the past four years. During that time, we remained unified and vigilant in advancing our collective goals, caucus policy and legislative priorities. I am grateful to, once again, be chosen as part of this team for the upcoming 2025-26 legislative session and I look forward to continuing those efforts and to hold the Shapiro Administration accountable on behalf of all Pennsylvanians. Sen. Kim Ward (R-39) has been re-elected to serve as interim Senate President Pro Tempore from Dec. 1 until Jan. 6. On Tuesday, Jan. 7, the Senate will vote for a President Pro Tempore to serve for the new two-year legislative session. Sen. Joe Pittman (R-41) was re-elected Senate Majority Leader. Sen. Ryan Aument (R-36) was re-elected Majority Whip. Sen. Scott Martin (R-13) was re-elected to serve as Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee. Sen. Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-28) was re-elected as Majority Caucus Chair. The grants were awarded through the Community Conservation Partnerships Program, which helps fund planning, acquisition and development of public parks, recreation areas, trails and more. Parks provide us the opportunity to engage in healthy habits and recreation, which improves our quality of life and increases our enjoyment. These grants will help to fund projects that will absolutely make our communities better for everyone who calls them home. Year-round Motorcycle Inspections Bill Poised for EnactmentLegislation to allow year-round motorcycle safety inspections in Pennsylvania, championed by me and Rep. Kyle Mullins (D-112), is set to become law after receiving unanimous Senate and House support. Even though motorcycles can be purchased and driven on Pennsylvania roadways throughout the year, the state Vehicle Code currently only allows safety inspections to be performed from March to October. Government shouldn’t stand in the way of people who are trying to preserve their own safety and that of others on our roads. Allowing motorcycle inspections year-round will make it more convenient for people to ensure they are current on inspections – a no-brainer. The legislation would eliminate the current restriction to give motorcycle operators more opportunities to complete required inspections. Motorcycle registration with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation would continue to be tied to the month the vehicle is to be inspected. Both House Bill 2177 and Senate Bill 1147 passed the Senate. House Bill 2177 ultimately advanced to the governor for enactment. If signed into law, it would be effective in 60 days. Veterans Day Ceremony was SpecialOn the hallowed grounds of the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, I gave my remarks paying tribute to those who have served and are currently serving during the annual Veterans Day ceremony. We were treated to a flyover by a C-17 Globemaster courtesy of the 911th Airlift Wing, Pittsburgh Air Reserve Station. After the ceremony concluded, I was truly honored to meet a 102-year-old World War II veteran and take time to thank him for his service. Senate Republicans Organize for 2025-26 SessionVoters returned a 28-22 Republican majority to the state Senate for the 2025-26 legislative session. All Republican incumbents were re-elected and two new Republican senators are on the way to Harrisburg. To drive priorities of protecting jobs, empowering families and defending freedoms, Senate Republicans re-elected our leadership team for the upcoming session. Senate Republicans are united in our efforts to prioritize the needs of Pennsylvanians. We remain focused on helping families restore economic freedom while positioning communities to thrive. Increasing energy independence, expanding access to well-paying jobs and making communities healthy and safer are top initiatives in our work to move Pennsylvania forward. Being Prepared for Fall Driving HazardsFall brings different driving hazards, including wet leaves, fog, sun glare and frost. Drivers can use fall driving tips from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) to make their commutes safer. Extra caution is needed on roads covered with wet leaves, which can be as slippery as ice. When driving in fog, it’s best to use low-beam headlights to avoid the glare created by high beams. Morning frost and icy spots can cause issues as overnight temperatures drop toward freezing. Ice is more likely to form on bridges, overpasses and shaded areas. Pennsylvania drivers face the third-highest chance of being involved in an animal-related crash in the nation. To report a dead animal for removal from a state road, call the PennDOT at 1-800-FIX-ROAD. Call the Game Commission at 1-833-742-9453 for local roads.
