HARRISBURG – Sen. Camera Bartolotta (R-46) today announced an $8.4 million state grant to revitalize an abandoned mine site in Greene County through the Crucible North Project.
Spearheaded by the Natural Streams Foundation, the project will address long-term environmental challenges by safely removing nearly 213,000 cubic yards of coal refuse and restoring more than six acres in Cumberland Township. The grant will also be used to regrade and revegetate the land to restore its natural functionality.
“As a member of the Senate Labor and Industry Committee, I am pleased to note that this project creates and supports union jobs, ensuring that the initiative fosters sustainable job growth in the region,” Bartolotta said. “I look forward to seeing reclamation efforts drive sustainable job growth and environmental restoration.”
The grant was awarded through the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation. The bureau is authorized through the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement to issue grants for abandoned mine land reclamation and acid mine drainage treatment or abatement.
