HARRISBURG – Sen. Camera Bartolotta (R-46) announced six Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grants totaling $10.7 million will boost tourism and the economy in Washington County.
“Washington County is receiving an infusion of dollars to improve the educational, recreational and medical opportunities in the area. Nearly $11 million will make incredible improvements not only for residents; the funding is also expected to make the area more attractive to tourists, which will help local businesses as they patronize restaurants, shops and places to stay,” Bartolotta said.
Cool Valley II in Cecil Township received $4 million to excavate and grade 250 acres of forest and install basic infrastructure including water, gas, electricity and onsite road construction for what will be a 900-acre, multi-phased development project. It will also include significant offside road improvements to three failed intersections.
The Canonsburg Hospital Revitalization Plan in Canonsburg Borough received $2.5 million to temporarily relocate the helipad and heliport to allow for construction. The site preparation and new construction for foundations will be completed and a new traffic signal will be installed. The next phase will be the construction of the core and shell of a combined structure for the hospital and medical office building functions.
The Brockway Glass Site Development Project in Canton Township received a $1.6 million grant. The project will redevelop functionally obsolete buildings on a designated brownfield site with limited access into a topflight, Class A commercial building that can be used for warehouse/distribution, light manufacturing and more. The location is close to Interstates 70 and 79 with a redesigned access road into the site, meeting southwestern Pennsylvania’s dire need for a pad-ready industrial or lease-ready space to accommodate the expected economic development that will be coming online.
Canonsburg Educational and Cultural Institute Renovations in Canonsburg Borough received $1 million for the acquisition and renovation of the campus and former middle school that includes a gymnasium, pool and auditorium along with classroom space and various support/office areas.
An $800,000 grant will improve the Epi-Center at Tanger Outlets in South Strabene Township. The facility will include 15 indoor pickleball courts, several outdoor pickleball courts, eight basketball courts which can double as 12 volleyball courts, a restaurant and bar, entertainment spaces and other areas for activities and recreation. The features are designed to capture local and national interest while benefitting community health and engagement.
Four Points Brewery and Brew Pub in Monongahela received $800,000 to for an interactive room and bottling company. The riverfront location will include a restaurant with deck seating.
RACP is a Commonwealth grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects. RACP projects are state-funded and cannot obtain primary funding under other state programs.
